Delphi Building

A $1 billion investment by Amazon in Clinton is set to become the largest economic development project in Hinds County history, marking a transformational moment for the region and reinforcing West Hinds County’s growing role in Mississippi’s economic future.

The project, which will bring approximately 100 new jobs, will redevelop the former Delphi Packard manufacturing facility into a state-of-the-art data center operation. The Clinton site is part of Amazon’s broader $12 billion expansion across central Mississippi, bringing the company’s total planned investment in the state to $25 billion.

For Hinds County, however, this announcement stands on its own.

“This is a historic win for Hinds County and for the entire West Hinds region,” said Philip Gunn, Director of Connect West. “This $1 billion investment is the largest economic development project our county has ever seen. It shows that when we work together—local leadership, economic development partners, and the private sector—we can compete for and land projects of national significance. This is just the beginning of what’s possible for Clinton and West Hinds County.”

The project represents Amazon’s first location in Clinton and highlights a growing trend of reinvesting in existing industrial sites. By repurposing the former Delphi facility, the development brings new life to a long-standing asset in the community while accelerating project timelines.

Local and state partnerships played a critical role in securing the investment. Hinds County, the City of Clinton, and economic development organizations worked alongside the Mississippi Development Authority and Entergy Mississippi to meet infrastructure and energy demands necessary for a project of this scale.

The investment also reflects the increasing importance of advanced technology infrastructure in Mississippi. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing division, continues to expand nationwide to support artificial intelligence, data storage, and next-generation digital services.

While much of Amazon’s expansion includes larger projects in neighboring counties, local leaders say the Clinton investment is uniquely significant.

“This project is about more than jobs—it’s about positioning Hinds County for the future,” Gunn added. “We’re seeing global companies recognize the strengths of our workforce, our location, and our ability to deliver. That changes the conversation about what economic development looks like in West Hinds County going forward.”

The Clinton project builds on additional Amazon investments in central Mississippi, including major developments in Madison and Warren counties. Together, these projects are expected to create thousands of jobs and generate long-term economic impact across the region.

For Connect West and its partners, the focus now turns to building on this momentum.

With a billion-dollar investment now underway, Hinds County has firmly established itself as a destination for large-scale, high-impact economic development—something local leaders say will open the door for even more opportunities in the years ahead.
